Beyond the Blog: Using MovableType as a CMS

Matt Haughey has written an excellent article about how to extend MovableType so that it serves as a more traditional Content Management System. The funny thing is that I was going to write this exact same article after I finished building out WatchBlog. I may still write mine since I learned some things that Matt does not mention, and it may be a great complimentary piece to Matt's article.

I'm also using MT to build out some of my clients' Web sites, which are definitely not blogs but have regularly-updated content similar to blogs.

Could you at all detail how your clients' sites use MoveableType - it would be a really interesting read.

I used Movable Type for the redesign of the Consumers Union at http://www.consumersunion.org. It's very powerful and very flexible. The main features we liked:
1. Staff from all 4 of the CU offices can upload documents directly to the site with no HTML knowledge
2. Documents can be assigned to multiple categories (press release, home page, health care, etc.) so the material is populated automatically throughout the site.

I beseech you, sir, do. And if I may be so presumptuous, do it sooner, rather than later.

Patience...I'm building a business site out right now that uses MT but it might not be the best example. I'll write up a tutorial at some point but I need all of my information ducks and example ducks in a row first.

MT is really helpful. I am thinking of using it for my new project
