Date: Fri, 16 Jun 2000 12:20:26 -0700 From: Taylor To: Cameron Barrett Subject: Cease and Desist Mr. Barrett: It has come to my attention that you have made an unauthorized use of my trademark, hereafter referred to as "a bright orange shirt". I have reserved all rights to wearing bright orange shirts, bright orange jackets, bright orange sweatshirts, and any other apparel that could be construed, mistaken, or otherwise perceived as being bright orange torso coverings. As you neither asked for nor received permission to use my trademark, or to create a licensed copy. I believe you have willfully infringed my rights under 17 U.S.C. Section 101 et seq. and could be liable for statutory damages as high as $100,000,000.00 as set forth in Section 504(c)(2) therein. I demand that you immediately cease the use and mention of said bright orange shirt, that you deliver to me all unused, clean copies of same, or destroy such copies immediately if they happen to have soiled, sweated upon, or otherwise made to stink, and that you desist from this or any other infringement of my rights in the future. If I have not received an affirmative response from you by July 1st, 2000 indicating that you have fully complied with these requirements, I shall take further action against you. Most likely resulting in your weblog being split in two separate weblogs (one dealing with anti Microsoft rants and other technology news, the other concerning cultural curios, both on and off the net, of interest to developers). Very truly yours, The Evil Legal Department Captain Cursor Creations HTTP://www.captaincursor.com/
